Born Maria Salomea Skłodowska, later known as Marie Curie or Madame Curie, her contributions to science cannot be understated. She saved thousands of lives with her mobile X-ray units during World War I, became the first female professor at the Sorbonne in Paris, and made generous contributions to her native Poland, leading to the establishment of the Radium Institute in Warsaw.
