Event Details
In 1906, the U.S. Congress changed the immigration law and required specific additional information in the naturalization petitions. The petition then included when and where the immigrant arrived. It also listed when and where they were born. Naturalization papers for those of us with immigrant ancestors are important clues in describing our Americanization.
Come and learn more about the history of the process, changes in the requirements, and where to find copies of these documents. The naturalization of immigrants establishes their family roots in America. We will learn about those who were a part of the wave of emigration that left Europe with the hope of finding work and a better life. They saw immigration to America as their last chance. Learn more about how to research and record the details of their journey to arrival and naturalization.
This group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 pm. Learn about using different online databases, breaking through “brick walls,” obtaining vital records, and documenting and organizing your family research. Come share your family research success stories and continue to increase the “branches” on your family tree!
